Hot Days, Reading Slumps, and Rained-Out Plans

Hey Book Blogger Friends! Happy Sunday! How was your week?

Early this week we hit our first high 80s with 90+ degree heat index days. Usually I love hot days but without air conditioning it was pretty uncomfortable. Now it’s back to low humidity and lower temps.

For reading I’ve had a couple really great audiobook listens but I’m striking out on physical, eBook, and ARC reads. I feel like I’m looking for a specific type of book and I’m unable to find it except in the audiobooks I’ve been choosing.

Rain swept in midweek to drop the temps – and ruin my plans of going out exploring. I’ve had to move my plans to explore a shipwreck that is permanently washed ashore, some supposedly haunted caves, and a super unique coffee shop until this coming week. I’m still trying to get out and hike today as long as the trail isn’t too muddy.

Editing, Hiking, and Back to Routine

Hey Book Blogger Friends! How was your week?

I got the line edits back from my editor for my next book, It Rose From the Ashes so I’ve been working on the corrections all week hoping to get them done before I head back for my first full week back to work this coming Tuesday. My editor has been so supportive and her changes make the story even richer. I also finalized the blurb and set up the cover reveal!

Yesterday I went for a nice hike at High Cliff State Park here in Wisconsin and took the Indian Mound Trail which has burial mounds that were built 1000-1500 years ago. It was also a gorgeous day for a hike!

Meanwhile, Friday was my first day back to work post gallbladder surgery. (boo!) Luckily I have the weekend off and I go back for my first full week back on Tuesday.

The Hardest Decision, Brain Overload, and Fish Tacos

Hey Book Blogger Friends! How was your week. Mine was extremely busy… and extremely emotional.

Last Sunday I made the hardest decision I’ve had to make. The decision to rehome my dog, Toby. He’s a nearly 2 year old bernedoodle and I’ve been struggling lately with my work and sleep schedule that he’s spending more time than is fair in his kennel and I never have time to take him on walks or give him the attention he needs. My mom had gotten him roughly a year before she passed away and was able to hang out with him all day while she was home. I’m sort of shocked how fast everything moved. By Tuesday he was picked up by the rescue to go to his foster home and I believe as of today he might have been adopted. I promised myself I wasn’t going to cry, but I’m tearing up typing this.

In the midst of that I had the rest of my training at work on our new system. I learned so much.. to the point that my brain feels a little overloaded. Our launch for the new system is Tuesday and I’m hoping it goes smooth.

Obviously it’s been a long, at times challenging week. Friday I had to get out and have a self-care day so I got up early and went to my favorite brunch spot for fish tacos to cheer myself up.

Book Mail, New Bookcases, and Cold Snaps

Hey Book Blogger Friends! How was your week?

I got a little book mail this week, including my first book box from Probably Smut (excuse the name 😆).

Just in time I got my two new bookcases, although I’ve only put one together so far. They’re a bit smaller than I was expecting but they seem sturdy.

It’s been really cold the past few days and I’m looking forward to the 50s in this coming week’s forecast. The cold weather does nothing good for me.

Beware what waits in the shadows…

With one unexpected email from her estranged best friend, Lucy, Mina Murray’s carefully curated life is turned upside down. Leaving behind her psychiatric practice in London, along with her routine and the calm it brings, she returns to the windswept shores of Wales. Faced with everything she’s left behind, she soon discovers that Lucy’s symptoms mirror those of her mysterious patient with amnesia hundreds of miles away.

With nothing but an untreatable sickness connecting the two women, and with Lucy’s life on the line, Mina finds herself asking questions and being drawn ever-deeper into a web of secrets, missing girls, and the powerful, nameless force at its center—one that has been haunting her for years.

As terrible, ancient truths begin to reveal themselves, Mina prepares to confront her own darkest secrets, and with them, an evil beyond comprehension. Together with a group of smart, savvy women, Mina seizes one last, desperate chance to stop the cycle that began so long ago. But there are dangers to inviting the attentions of what might not be a man, but a monster…

Celebration of Life, Author Event, and Travel Planning

Hey Bookdragons! It’s already the last Sunday in September! It feels like this month has been a blur right?

Yesterday was the celebration of life for my mother. It was nice seeing so many of my mom’s friends and our extended family. It feels like we haven’t really seen any of them since my mom passed but I suppose they’ve been busy with their own stuff. It was also a bit of a bittersweet day.

On Thursday night I made two exciting decisions. The first was when I saw a post in the Wisconsin Authors group I’m part of for an author event in Door County on November 4th that was looking for more authors. I’m going to be up in Door County for a mini writing retreat/vacation November 1-3 so it was a no brainer to extend my trip by another day. I’m really excited! I haven’t done a book signing since Headless released in 2018!

The other exciting (for me) decision I made revolves around my spring 2024 vacation. I know I said New Orleans would be the spring trip but after trying to find a set of dates that would not be 4 million degrees and not love bug season (which I did not know was a thing but they are truly grotesque bugs) while also trying not to choose a month when we could have blizzard conditions and ice storms here in Wisconsin I felt discouraged. Then I was scrolling through my TikToks and came across my photo reel from my trip to Charleston this past April and… I’m going back. April 2024. I’m so excited. There’s still so much to see and explore and I miss the sights and the food and have I mentioned how much I love Charleston? I know, this will be my 3rd trip in 4 years and I’m afraid people will say I’m weird for going to the same place all the time but I just love it so much. Ok… mini ramble over. I’m just so excited!

Long Weekend, Vacation Time, and Weather Whiplash

Hey Bookdragons! Happy Sunday! How was your week?

To me it’s always confusing when there’s a holiday on a Monday. Everything gets screwed up a little. Labor Day came in the middle of my three days off work but I spent last Sunday and Labor Day catching up on sleep then went for a manicure on Tuesday and had a nice lunch out.

Tomorrow I start my 6 vacation days. Tomorrow I have to get an oil change in my car (boo), Tuesday I hope to go car shopping for the winter car I need (rear-wheel drive sucks when you live in a snow prone area), and then Wednesday I’m off to Michigan for a few days of relaxation. I can’t wait to recharge.

We had the weirdest weather this week – from 100 degrees and humid to high 60s and comfortable seemingly in the blink of an eye. Not that I mind that I’m packing hoodies for my trip instead of shorts.
